As a graduate of Toronto Metropolitan University’s publishing certificate program, I am a professionally trained editor with wide-ranging experience. At TMU, I received both general and specialized training in editing, including in subjects such as fiction editing, educational publishing, and digital publishing.
Originally from Edmonton, Alberta, I moved across the country to Halifax to study music at Dalhousie University. I graduated with a Bachelor of Music, and after teaching music for several years, I transitioned into editing and moved to Montreal. You can still occasionally find me performing music, and as an editor, I love working on music-related texts.
During my editing career so far, I have had the opportunity to work on a variety of texts, such as a master’s thesis on punk music, online courses for K–12 students, translated works, self-help books, and fantasy novels. In every text I edit, I bring a consistent level of care and high-quality work, while also adapting to each type of text and its unique audience. I am also aware of plain language and conscious language principles, and I bring that knowledge to the texts I edit.
I am a versatile writer who can adjust my writing to fit different styles and audiences. I have written for online publications, such as The Artifice and BoldFace, the blog of Editors Toronto. I have contributed to a company’s commemorative book, and my fantasy novel, Into Shadow, was a finalist in ECW Press’s Best New Speculative Fiction Novel Contest.
I am a member of Editors Canada and continually seek professional development opportunities through the organization. Some of these opportunities have included mentorship, a stylistic editing study group, and webinars, and I attended the 2024 Editors Canada conference. I was also the chair of the Editors Canada Student Relations Committee for the 2024 to 2025 term.
